Design the experience, not just the answer · Maxime Bodereau

UX for AI
Products

A guide to designing AI products that show their states, admit their limits, and actually help the user move forward.

Selected excerpts. Not a summary in disguise.

02

Progress

The user does not want an answer.

They want to move forward. Describe the expected progress without using the word “generate.” That reframing keeps you from building an answer machine that stops too early.

03

States

Trust is designed in the transitions.

The user needs to know what the system is doing, what it did, what it could not do, and what it is waiting for now.

04

Recovery

A good error describes the next decision.

Correct the context, keep part of the result, change methods, ask for evidence, or return to an earlier state. An error should not be a wall.

Who it’s for

For teams that know a prompt field is not a product experience.

UX for AI Products is for teams turning model capability into a reliable, understandable, actionable experience.

The user does not want an answer. They want to move forward. The product must show its states, offer ways to recover, and say what is missing.

The rest is in the book

You’ve read enough to know
whether you want to continue.
